Special Projects: Hope for Communities

We help provide orphans and needy children with an education, but in addition to that, we provide communities with hope for a better life. Children of Hope and Faith has undertaken a number of special projects -  to date we have provided over $183,670 in project funding. 

Past Projects

Health care projects for St. Francis Rwambaizi Health Center

Project Completion Date: Spring 2016

Repair of the ambulance, finish electricity installation and construction of 3 latrines 

 

Kindergarten classrooms at St. George's Cathedral

Project Completion Date: Spring 2016

COHF provided classrooms for students who attend St. George's Cathderal Kindergarten program. There are over 100 children in the program, and until recently classes were held outside and in small rooms in the Theresian convent! 

 

Building the Cistern at Sacred Heart Girls' Hostel

The cistern provides an adequate source of water for drinking and hygiene.

Renovating the Underground Cisterns at St. Joseph Vocational High School

Project Completion Date: Spring 2014

The cisterns provide an adequate source of water for drinking and hygiene.

 

Dairy Cow Project at St. Peter Claver School

Project Completion Date: 2013
COHF Support: $3,400

Solar Energy Project for St. Alfred High School

Project Completion Date: 2012
COHF Support: $36,000

Provides electricity 24 hours a day for all school buildings, which benefits 750 students, teachers and staff.  Required 24 solar batteries, 52 solar panels and inverter.

Solar Energy Project for Sacred Heart Girls' Hostel

Project Completion Date: 2012
COHF Support: $2,800

Provides electricity for girls in high school dormitory.

Computers for Seminarians in Dioceses of Rulenge-Ngara and Kayanga

Project Completion Date: 2012
COHF Support: $1,160

Bishops received three computers for seminarians in three major seminaries.

Kiosk for St. Peter Claver School

Project Completion Date: 2012
COHF Support: $1,700

Provides staples for teachers and staff who live at the school. It is open to the community and generates income.  

Library for St. Peter Claver School

Project Completion Date: 2010
COHF Support: $4,000

Provided shelving and books in English.  In the photo at left, Mr. Gratian Rutayuga, Principal of St. Peter Claver School, is holding a book donated by Rachel Semple as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award.           

Expansion of Angel Home Orphanage

Project Completion Date: 2010
COHF Support: $51,500

Funded construction of a new building for older children to live when they return home during school vacations. Built pre-school/Kindergarten classroom to prepare children for sponsorship in rigorous Catholic grade schools.

Pig and Goat Project for St. Peter Claver School

Project Completion Date: 2008
COHF Support: $1,370

Provided a cost-effective and reliable source of meat for the children.

Corn Husking and Grinding Mill for St. Peter Claver School

Project Completion Date: 2008
COHF Support: $5,015

Provides a reliable and cost-effective source of cornmeal, which is a staple of the Tanzanian diet. There are now two mills that serve the local community and provide income for the school.

Grant to Franciscan Sisters of St. Bernadette at Angel Home Orphanage

Project Completion Date: 2006
COHF Support: $1,325

A donation to enable the sisters to keep the older children at Angel Home. Prior to this, the sisters could not keep the children and there was no hope for their education. 

Water Project for Franciscan Sister of St. Bernadette Formation House

Project Completion Date: 2005
COHF Support: $3,000

Sisters had to walk long distances to obtain water. Water tank and pump were funded to store rainwater and provide running water for the sisters. The picture at left is of the sisters and novices who benefitted from the project.
